The End of the Projector Era
The corporate meeting room is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Projectors — long the default display technology for boardrooms and conference rooms — are being replaced by video walls and large-format displays that offer superior image quality, reliability, and functionality. In Singapore's modern office environments, where hybrid work and video conferencing have become standard, the display system is no longer a passive presentation tool but an active collaboration platform.
This shift is driven by several factors. Projectors require dimmed lighting for visibility, which conflicts with the needs of video conferencing participants who need to be well-lit on camera. Projector lamps degrade over time, resulting in progressively dimmer images and recurring replacement costs. And the resolution limitations of most business projectors cannot match the crisp, detailed output of modern 4K display panels.
Choosing the Right Technology
For corporate meeting rooms, the choice typically comes down to three options: a single large-format display, an LCD video wall, or an LED video wall.
Single large-format displays (75-inch to 98-inch) are the simplest and most cost-effective option for small to medium meeting rooms (seating 6–12 people). A single 86-inch 4K display provides excellent image quality at a fraction of the cost and complexity of a multi-panel video wall. Modern commercial displays include built-in Android platforms for running presentation and collaboration software directly on the screen. LCD video walls (typically 2x2 configurations of 55-inch panels) are ideal for medium to large boardrooms (seating 12–20 people) where a single display would be too small. Ultra-narrow bezel technology minimises the visual interruption of panel seams, though they remain visible — a consideration for brand-conscious organisations. The advantage of LCD video walls is their high pixel density, which makes them excellent for displaying detailed content like financial data, architectural drawings, and multi-source layouts. LED video walls provide the premium option for executive boardrooms and large conference spaces. The completely seamless display surface creates a more polished, professional appearance, and the higher brightness levels ensure visibility even in rooms with large windows. Fine-pitch LED (P1.2 to P1.8) delivers the resolution needed for close-viewing corporate applications.Sizing Guidelines
The correct display size depends on the room dimensions and seating arrangement. A widely accepted guideline is that the display height should be at least one-sixth of the distance from the screen to the farthest viewer.
For a typical Singapore boardroom with the farthest seat 6 metres from the display wall, the minimum display height should be 1 metre (approximately equivalent to an 86-inch display in 16:9 format). For larger conference rooms with viewing distances up to 10 metres, a display height of 1.5–2 metres is recommended, which typically requires a video wall configuration.
The bottom edge of the display should be positioned approximately 90–120cm from the floor to ensure visibility for seated participants. If the room is also used for standing presentations, consider a slightly lower mounting height.
AV Integration Considerations
A corporate video wall is only as effective as the AV system that drives it. Key integration considerations include:
Video conferencing compatibility. The display system should seamlessly integrate with platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet. This typically requires an HDMI or USB-C input from the room's video conferencing codec, plus the ability to display the video conference alongside presentation content in a split-screen layout. Wireless screen sharing. Participants should be able to share their laptop or mobile device screens wirelessly without fumbling with cables or adapters. Many modern commercial displays include built-in wireless presentation capabilities, or you can add a dedicated wireless presentation system like Barco ClickShare or Mersive Solstice. Multi-source display. For command centres and executive briefing rooms, the ability to display multiple input sources simultaneously is essential. Video wall controllers can divide the display surface into zones, each showing a different source — for example, a live news feed, a financial dashboard, and a video conference window, all visible at once. Audio integration. While built-in speakers are adequate for small meeting rooms, larger boardrooms benefit from a dedicated audio system with ceiling speakers or a soundbar. Ensure the display's audio output can be routed to the room's audio system.Interactive Capabilities
Interactive whiteboards and touchscreen displays are increasingly popular in Singapore's corporate meeting rooms, enabling collaborative annotation, brainstorming, and real-time document editing.
Goodview's Interactive Whiteboard offers 20-point touch precision with 4K display quality, built-in wireless screen sharing, and smart writing capabilities. Running Android 11 with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, it functions as both a presentation display and a digital whiteboard, eliminating the need for separate devices.
For larger video wall installations, interactive capability can be added through an infrared touch overlay frame, though this is typically limited to single-panel or 2x2 configurations due to the complexity of calibrating touch across multiple panels.
Network and Security Requirements
Corporate video walls and smart displays connect to the company network for content management, software updates, and remote monitoring. This raises important security considerations for IT departments.
Network segmentation. Place digital signage devices on a dedicated VLAN, separate from the corporate data network. This limits the potential attack surface and prevents signage traffic from affecting business-critical network performance. Firmware management. Ensure the display manufacturer provides regular firmware updates to address security vulnerabilities. Goodview's cloud platform supports over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates with A/B partitioning for rollback capability. Access control. Restrict administrative access to the content management system using role-based access controls. Ensure all management interfaces use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).Cost Planning
Budget planning for a corporate video wall installation should account for several cost categories beyond the display hardware itself.
The display hardware typically represents 40–50% of the total project cost. A 2x2 LCD video wall for a boardroom ranges from SGD 10,000–20,000, while a fine-pitch LED video wall for an executive boardroom may cost SGD 30,000–80,000 depending on size and pixel pitch.
AV integration (video wall controller, switching, cabling, and audio) adds 20–30% to the hardware cost. Professional installation and calibration account for another 10–15%. Ongoing costs include content management software licensing and annual maintenance.
