The Mechanism of How LCD Works and LCD Professional Display

Add time:2020.01.02  Hit:  Print

The unique property of liquid crystal has been discovered by human beings hundreds years ago. However, it had been almost one century until this type of molecular was applied into display manufacture. That means how liquid crystal display works was once a universal confusion before people finally recognized it. It was important of us to know the existence of liquid crystal, but it was even more important to know how LCD works. With the devotions by generations of scientists, the wonderland was eventually being discovered in the middle of last century.

To explain how LCD works, it is essential for us to have the cognition about the constitution of LCD. Two transparent electrodes, usually made with Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), are needed to conduct electric. Between the two electrodes is a row of liquid crystal molecular all in a specific direction, which is the main part of LCD. Two light filters, with vertical polarized light direction, are set out of the electrodes. All above are the primary functional parts of LCD, and are sufficient to explain how LCD works.

Liquid crystal has an amazing property that it can change the direction of a bunch of polarized light. Without LC molecular between the two electrodes, no light can go through the two vertical light filters according to Malus Law and his equation I=I0cosA2. However, LC molecular can change the condition by its amazing property-changing the direction of polarized light, in some particular actions and conditions. Whether the light to go through the system determines whether there is light or not. And that is the main idea of how LCD works.

There are still some functions participate in how lcd advertising player works. One of them is where the back-light is. To distinguish the two types of LCD, with back-light behind the viewer and at the same side of the viewer respectively, we call them transmission type and reflection type. The mechanism of how these two types of LCD works is almost the same, but the reflection type usually have a stronger contrast ratio, because the light would go through the system twice and the effect would be more apparent.

The Mechanism of How LCD Works and LCD Professional Display

To meet a specific and professional requirement, one lcd professional display is in command. For example, in e-book like kindle, the display are needed to have a low power consumption and have a longer service time, which means the display should be designed in a specific way. So how does this type of LCD works? The key is the LC molecular is stable in one direction, and the display is black or white singly. The only process that costs power is to change the direction, but the power it costs is usually very low. This type of LCD is known as ZBD, which means zenithal bistable device. And to have this property, LC molecular usually consists with polymers. Some other types of professional displays are in other particular materials. But in all, the core of the mechanism of how LCD works is always the same.
